The Spring market is here for real estate in Boston.

The Spring market is here for real estate in Boston. The acitvity has picked up. Open Houses are busy. The good weather and the low interest rates are a big factor.

More Buyers are looking and making offers and more sellers are listing their property, some properties are selling as soon as they land on the market.

Properties in some areas like Jamaica Plain, Brookline or Cambridge are even getting multiple offers.

The real estate inventory in these areas is low especially in certain types of properties like single family homes for example.

If you are  a Buyer be prepared to make quick decisions and be informed and if you are a seller, be willing to price your property well to attract buyers.

So it's not a buyer's market everywhere righ now and the glass may be half full.

For more information about the market, please contact Emmanuel Scibilia at 617-669-6277

Buying pies for Thanksgiving to help hungry families

Community Servings is selling Thanksgiving pies to fund its food distribution program.

A $25 pie for Thanksgiving might sound expensive, but Community Servings’ annual fund-raiser faces great demand—each pie is donated by one of over 150 restaurants, hotels, caterers and bakeries in the Greater Boston area. The $25 provides an entire week’s worth of home-delivered meals to people too ill to provide for themselves.

This year, their 19th, they will sell more than 13,000 apple, pecan, pumpkin and sweet potato pies, 600 to 800 of which will end up in JP. Over 500 volunteer pie-sellers work throughout the fall to sell, organize and distribute the pies all over the eastern part of the state.

Aside from Community Servings headquarters at 18 Marbury Terrace, JP residents can collect their pies at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage at 713 Centre St. and at Mike’s Fitness gym at 284 Amory St.

Mike’s Fitness is hosting a pie sale day Nov. 19.

Pies can be ordered on pieinthesky.org. They will be available for pick-up Nov. 23, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Annual lantern parade in Jamaica Plain

The annual Lantern parade is scheduled for October 22nd and 23rd at 5:30PM.

The tradition that started in 1984 when people got together to walk their candle-lit lanterns around Jamaica Pond was inspired by a Japenese and Dutch tradition. In preparation for the Lantern Parade, Spontaneous Celebrations and community members host lantern making workshops where people of all ages make hand made lanterns from recycled soda bottles decorated with colorful tissue paper; lanterns can also be purchased.

Hundreds of people come with their lanterns and many children come in Halloween costumes. It's a great way to gather the community and to be creative.

New construction for retail stores at Arboretum Place, Jamaica Plain

Businesses will include a new larger Harvest Co-op, a bank and other stores. The other Harvest co-op store on South will stay open.

Parking will be available as well. This has been a vacant lot with great potential and a great location.

The area is in need of retail and food stores and this a great improvement especially because it will offer parking.

New possible development in Jamaica Plain

Plans are on their way to build 42 condos, a self storage facility, retail space and 115 parking spaces at 3521-3529 Washington St, Jamaica Plain.

It would replace the closed used car dealership Flanagan & Seaton Motor Car Company, and a parking lot all located within an upside-down L-shaped parcel that abuts MBTA Orange Line and commuter rail tracks.

36 condos on three-story building will be built above a partially below-grade 36-space parking garage.
The four-story storage facility would contain around 1,233 storage units. At the corner of Washington and McBride streets, the retail space, envisioned as a multi-tenant facility with proposed outdoor seating, would be two-stories tall.
There will be parking spaces for the car-share program Zipcar, a bike share site, and charging stations for electric cars.

Lantern Festival

The Forest Hills Cemetery's annual Lantern Festival started 13 years ago every July and was inspired by a Buddhist custom honoring the deseased spirits of one's family each year. The Festival brings people together to share memories of loved ones and more.

The Festival includes perfomances and cultural events from Ireland, Japan and China.

Paper lanterns are sold for a donation ($10.00) and they can be made and decorated on site.
